SHAH ALAM – The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) has urged the international community to take immediate action to restore humanitarian aid to Gaza, warning that around 500,000 people face catastrophic consequences if assistance is halted.
In a statement dated October 19, MAPIM said food, clean water, essential medicines, medical supplies and shelter were lifelines for civilians struggling amid the prolonged siege, displacement and destruction.
It warned that any suspension or obstruction of humanitarian assistance would worsen the crisis and expose vulnerable groups, including children, women, the elderly and people with disabilities, to further suffering and preventable deaths.
MAPIM also called for the Israeli occupying authorities to be held accountable for actions and policies that obstruct humanitarian relief and contribute to starvation and deprivation among Gaza’s civilian population.
It stressed that the prohibition against using starvation of civilians as a method of warfare must be upheld, adding that humanitarian aid should never be used as a tool of political pressure or collective punishment.
The organisation urged Arab and Muslim governments, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League to take coordinated action, including diplomatic intervention, emergency funding and the establishment of secure and sustained humanitarian access.
It also called for international monitoring to prevent the obstruction or arbitrary suspension of relief supplies, as well as investigations into alleged violations of international humanitarian law.
MAPIM urged the United Nations, humanitarian agencies and governments worldwide to act urgently, warning that delays in restoring aid would put more civilian lives at risk.
“Break the siege. Restore humanitarian aid. Stop starvation. Protect civilian lives. Hold perpetrators accountable,” the statement said.
The statement was issued by MAPIM president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, who is also chairman of the Malaysian Global Coalition in Support of Al Aqsa and Palestine, alongside Alliance of World Mosques in Defence of Al Aqsa (MANAR) chairman Datuk Seri Syekh Ahmad Awang and Secretariat of the Ulama Assembly of Asia (SHURA) chairman Datuk Wira (Dr) Syekh Abdul Ghani Samsudin. – DETIK MALAYSIA
