KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) has extended its congratulations to Al Jazeera on the occasion of the international news network’s 30th anniversary.
MAPIM president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said Al Jazeera had played a significant role in shaping global journalism over the past three decades through its critical reporting, diverse perspectives and efforts to amplify the voices of communities often underrepresented in mainstream international media.
He said the network had demonstrated the importance of independent journalism in documenting conflicts, exposing injustices and challenging narratives that sought to conceal the truth.
“Al Jazeera’s extensive coverage of Palestine, particularly the suffering of the people of Gaza amid Israeli aggression, has brought the realities of occupation, displacement and humanitarian devastation to the attention of the international community.
“At a time when journalists face threats, intimidation, detention and even death while reporting from conflict zones, MAPIM recognises the courage and sacrifices of media professionals who remain committed to their duty to inform the world,” he said in a statement today.
He added that MAPIM also paid tribute to journalists who had lost their lives in pursuit of the truth.
According to him, their sacrifices serve as a reminder that journalism is more than just a profession, but also a public responsibility and a moral commitment to humanity.
As Al Jazeera enters its fourth decade, MAPIM hopes the network will continue to uphold the principles of journalistic integrity, editorial independence, professional courage and accountability.
“May Al Jazeera continue to serve as a powerful platform for truth, justice and the voices of the oppressed, regardless of nationality, religion or political circumstances.
“Thirty years of telling the stories that matter. May the coming decades further strengthen the power of truth and humanity,” he said. – DETIK MALAYSIA
