SHAH ALAM – The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM), together with the Malaysia Global Coalition in Support of Al Aqsa and Palestine (MGCAP), has launched a 30-day Gaza Winter Campaign targeting RM500,000 in donations to assist displaced Palestinian families.
MAPIM president and MGCAP chairman Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said the campaign aims to mobilise emergency assistance to provide shelter and essential supplies for Gaza residents facing shortages as winter approaches.
He said families living in tents and makeshift shelters faced risks from cold weather, heavy rain, flooding and shortages of food, clean water and medical care.
“Children, older people, persons with disabilities and individuals with existing medical needs require particular protection in this situation,” he said in a statement today.
MAPIM also highlighted reports of a fire at a displacement camp in Shujayea, Gaza City, which reportedly destroyed tents and left approximately 800 Palestinians without shelter.
However, details of the incident, including the cause of the fire and the number of people affected, have not been independently verified.
Funds raised through the campaign will be used to obtain emergency shelter materials, tarpaulins, blankets, warm clothing and other essential supplies based on assessed humanitarian needs.
MAPIM clarified that the RM500,000 figure represents the campaign’s fundraising target and not funds already collected or aid already delivered.
The organisation urged the United Nations (UN), Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), donor governments and international humanitarian agencies to increase assistance and ensure safe humanitarian access to Gaza.
MAPIM also called on the Malaysian Government, civil society organisations, Islamic institutions, businesses and the public to contribute towards the campaign.
“As winter approaches, displaced families in Gaza need shelter, essential supplies and sustained access to humanitarian assistance.
“MAPIM calls on Malaysians and the international community to act urgently to help protect lives and uphold human dignity,” the statement said. – DETIK MALAYSIA
